Lap swimming at Adelaide Aquatic Centre

Enjoy lap swimming in the indoor and outdoor pools, with lanes clearly marked for slow, medium, and fast speeds. Before you visit, check lap lane availability, especially during peak times or events like school carnivals.

Competition Pool

The Adelaide Aquatic Centre’s indoor competition pool is designed for both performance and community use. With a depth ranging from 1.4 metres to 2 metres, it provides a versatile environment for swimmers of all levels. The pool offers ten lanes in the 50 metre mode and expands to twenty lanes in the 25 metre mode using a movable boom, allowing the space to adapt to recreational swimmers, clubs and community groups.

50m lanes are available on weekdays until 2:30 pm, with other programs taking place after this time. 25m indoor lap swimming available from 3:30pm.
50m lanes are not available on weekends.

Created as a shared space for everyday lap swimmers, clubs and organised programs, the indoor competition pool supports everything from casual fitness to structured training. For lap swimming, please check lane availability before arriving to ensure the best experience.

25m Outdoor Pool

The Adelaide Aquatic Centre’s 25‑metre outdoor pool features eight heated lanes perfect for lap swimming year‑round. With a depth ranging from 1.4 to 3.5 metres and dedicated 25‑metre lanes available, it’s an ideal space for both training and leisurely swims. Surrounded by relaxed lawn areas and convenient BBQ facilities, the outdoor pool offers a great environment to unwind or enjoy a day out in the fresh air. Warm Water Pool (16+)

The warm water pool offers a calm, comfortable space for gentle movement and unwinding, with warm temperatures designed to support low‑impact exercise and rehabilitation. Open to adults aged 16+, it also includes a relaxation area, making it an easy spot to stretch out, loosen up and take things at your own pace.
  • Lap swimming conditions of use
    • Lap Swimming depths range from 1.4-metres to 3.5-metres. The patron is responsible for ensuring they are confident of their swimming ability in a deep-water environment.
    • Vulnerable and elderly people with chronic health conditions should speak to their doctor about what is appropriate for them. Please speak to a lifeguard before entering the water if:
      • you are over the age of 55;
      • you have a pre-exiting medical condition (including disability); or
      • you are a inexperienced or non-swimmer.
    • Lanes are allocated to different speeds. Please use the correct lane appropriate for your swimming ability:
      • Slow: Suitable for those that take longer than 71 second to complete a 50m lap or 40 seconds to complete a 25m lap
      • Medium: suitable for those that can complete a 50m lap between 51 second and 70 seconds and a 25m lap between 26 and 40 seconds
      • Fast: Suitable for those that can complete a 50m lap by 50 seconds or less and 25m lap by 25 seconds of less

  • Watch Around Water Policy

    At Adelaide Aquatic Centre and the Y we are a Watch Around Water endorsed aquatic safety organisation.

    Watch Around Water is a set of industry guidelines outlining the minimum supervision requirements of young children at all affiliated aquatic venues.

    Children under 5 years old

    All children MUST be accompanied into the centre by a person 16 years and olderand supervised within arms’ reach, at all times in the water.

    All children MUST wear a pink wristband supplied by YMCA staff to help identify their age while swimming.

    Children will not be admitted without a full fee paying parent/guardian who must also be in the water at all times. Groups will not be admitted entry where the number of parents/guardians supervising a group of children under 5 years exceeds the ratio of 1:2 (effective 1 September 2019).

    Children under 10 years old

    All children under the age of 10 MUST be accompanied into the centre by a person 16 years and older. All children MUST be actively supervised by an adult over the age of 16 at all times. The adult must have a clear and active view of the child with no physical or structural barriers between them (this includes tech and devices).

    A child of limited swimming ability and or reliant on a flotation aid much be accompaniedand in arms' reach in the waterby a responsible person 16 years and olderregardless of the child's age.

    All children MUST wear a yellow wristband supplied by YMCA staff to help identify their age while swimming. Groups will not be admitted entry where the number of parents/guardians supervising a group of children under 10 years exceeds the ratio of 1:4.

    All children

    Unsupervised children (of any age) will be removed from the water if the lifeguard is concerned for their safety.

    Birthday parties

    All children under the age of 10 MUST be accompanied into the centre by a person 16 years and older and handed over to the supervision of the birthday party host (staff member).

    All birthday party participants must wear a green wristband to identify their participation in a party AND will be given an age based wristband (pink or yellow) at the conclusion of their birthday party if they choose to use the aquatic facilities (effective 1 September 2019). The adult guardian of the birthday party child MUST remain accessible and actively supervise the group at all times.

    At the conclusion of the birthday party the child/children will remain in the supervision of the birthday party leader and supervising parent until physically handed over to their supervising parent/guardian.
