Access and Inclusion
At the Adelaide Aquatic Centre we are working on improving the customer experience of people with disability. We have been working closely with Council’s Access and Inclusion Advisory Panel to identify opportunities to break down barriers to participation at the Centre, and work towards a more inclusive experience for all of our customers.
Staff trained in Disability Awareness
Our staff induction process now includes disability awareness training. This will ensure all staff working within the Centre assist in providing a postive experience for all of our customers.
Upgrades to Centre facilities
As part of our 2014 capital works program, a ramp was installed into the Main Pool as well as 2 accessible lifts into our Leisure Pool. Our focus then moved to further improving our accessible facilities which included the installation of automatic doors for easy access to the pool area and upgraded accessible change facilities in our main foyer area. In July 2017 we upgraded the access to our adult change facility to a swipe card access only. Our adult change facility located at the front of the Centre adjacent the female change room, includes a range of specialised equipment for customers with sever or profound disabilities. By altering the access to this facility we hope to increase the ease of access for those customers requiring the equipment located in this room.
We have had a menu for customers who are visually imparied produced in line with Royal Society for the Blind recommendations for font size and style. The menu is located in our new Cafe Fusion as well as on their webpage.
Recharge point for electric mobility devices and equipment
The Centre will also become a recognised “Recharge Point” in Council’s partnership with Recharge Scheme Australia. For more information on this scheme please visit www.rechargescheme.org.au.
The Aquatic Centre is also an affiliate of the Companion Card program. Companion Card is a card issued to people with a permanent disability who require attendant care support which allows a companion to enter free of charge to participating venues and activities.
As we are a venue focussed on continous improvement we will continue to work through our Access and Inclusion Action Plan, and keep this site updated as we work through further improvements.
